The Iconic Wall is a 460 square foot relief in the new Simons Center for Geometry and Physics at Stony Brook University. Based on an idea proposed by Nina Douglas in 2010, it was designed by Tony Philips in collaboration with Doctor Douglas and members of the Physics and Math departments of the University. The wall is comprised of significant equations and diagrams from Physics and Geometry that span several thousand years. The elements and layout were re-designed by Christian White, who carved them in limestone slabs along with several other stone carvers. The final relief that was installed in the SCGP is actually lighter-weight panels of a composite, which were cast from the original stone slabs.
